Abstract

Orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) has been widely recognized as a promising solution for broadband wireless networks. Unfortunately, in OFDMA uplink scenarios, high peak-to-average power ratios (PARs) dramatically degrade the power efficiency of the mobile users. This turns out to be one of the most critical problems when implementing OFDMA systems. In this paper, we propose efficient PAR reduction schemes based upon tone reservation. We show by simulation that the PAR can be significantly reduced without incurring multiple- access interference and with a very small loss in bandwidth.
