His research focuses primarily on the role of language within colonial, post-colonial, and exilic texts and experiences. He is the author of Colonialism and Grammatical Representation (2007) and has published articles in Interventions: The International Journal of Postcolonial Studies and Historiographia Linguistica. Writing with Jessica Dubow he has published on archive, exile, and language in New German Critique, Comparative Literature, and the Journal of European Studies.
