Abstract

Loiasis is a neglected tropical, vector-borne parasitic disease due to a nematode Loa loa and is transmitted to humans by deerfly, genus Chrysops. Most of the studies and reports on L. loa in literature have been in rural communities. We herein report a case of a 23-year-old Nigerian female urban dweller, recently diagnosed with ocular loiasis. This report highlights the possibility of the occurrence of sporadic cases of ocular loiasis in urban settlements in the rainforest areas of southern Nigeria.
