Abstract

Objective: Drowning maybe defined as death due to the aspiration of fluid in to the air pas sages. Drowning is the process of experiencing respiratory impairment from submersion/immersion in liquid. Drowning outcomes should be classified as: death, morbidity, and no morbidity. Drowning is a major, but often neglected, public health problem. Drowning is one of the fatal accidents frequently encountered during the summer and most common cause of accidental deaths in the world. According to World Health Organization it is the third preventable leading cause of death all over the World. Anoxia, hypothermia, metabolic acidosis is mainly responsible for morbidty. Conclusion: Origin of drowning may be accidental, homicidal or suicidal. Drowning is a high risk of death in children, it is frequently encountered. Especially, security precautions should be provided for settlements near ponds, rivers, swimming pools, or entertainment beaches in order to prevent drowning. In addition, basic first aid training of families will be a a life-saving effort
