Abstract

1. Study has been made of the catalytic activity of the octadehydrocorrin complexes of Co(II) and Ni(II), of the Co(III) complexes of the B12 vitamin series, and of the organocobalamins, in the oxidation of NADH by atmospheric oxygen in aqueous solution at room temperature. The highest activities was observed with the perchlorates of the Co(II) complexes of the 1,2,3,7,8,12,13,17,18,19-decamethyloctadehydrocorrins. 2. On the basis of kinetic and spectrophotometric studies, we have proposed a mechanism of NADH autooxidation which involved formation of an intermediate complex of the catalyst with NADH and oxygen.
