Abstract

Summary Tissue and organ cultures in vitro are an effective means to ameliorate the vegetative multiplication and to obtain useful variations for agriculture and horticulture. In the case of Gloxinia hybrida , it is relatively easy to stimulate abundant bud formation from floral peduncles. The most successful results have been obtained using 6-BAP (1 to 2 mg/l) in combination with NAA (0,2 to 1 mg/l). Rooting of the shoots in vitro is assured in the presence of IAA (0,5 mg/l) + 6-BAP (50 μg/l). The plants thus obtained flowered 2 months after their transfer to the glasshouse. No morphological differences in comparison with mother plants have been observed.
