Abstract

Slow-worms (Anguis fragilis L.) generally choose prey which are of large size, earthworms and slugs. Methods of catching and swallowing earthworms are described. They are generally swallowed by their anterior end. When given the choice between anterior, middle and posterior fragments of earthworms, Anguis fragilis generally prefer the first mentioned. Clitellum does not apparently play a role in this preference.
