Abstract

A description is given of the cultural, microscopical and biological characters of 3 strains of Trichophyton tonsurans.None of the strains was pathogenic for laboratory mice in spite of the fact that one (CBS 238·33) was isolated from a mouse showing symptoms of favus. CBS 238·33 and CBS 385·68 were not stimulated by thiamine; CBS 219·32 was partially deficient for it.Macroconidia were produced in great abundance on Sabouraud's glucose agar by all the 3 strains. They showed a striking wavy and hooked shape.
