Abstract

1. 1. Carbonic anhydrase activity of tissue homogenates was determined using a modified manometric technique. 2. 2. Erythrocytes were found to contain all of the carbonic anhydrase activity present in whole blood, thus a correction, using Cr 51 tagged cells, had to be made for the enzyme activity present in erythrocytes contained in the tissues assayed. 3. 3. Pseudobranch, spleen, retina-choroid and the whole eye contained more enzyme whereas gill and swim bladder tissue contained amounts comparable to that found in whole blood. 4. 4. Intraocular pressure was reduced from 13·2 to 7·2 mm Hg 24 hr after injection of the carbonic anhydrase inhibitor, Diamox (7 mg/100 g).
