Abstract

Objective To explore the preventive effect of two medicine solution (dexamethasone and physiological saline ) on phlebitis caused by peripherally inserted central catheter Methods A total of 200 patients with the need of peripherally inserted central catheter in our hospital from December 2013 to December 2014 were randomly divided into treatment group and control group, 100 cases in each group. The catheter of the treatment group was soaked in 40 ml saline and 5 mg dexamethasone before the insertion of PICC, while the catheter of the control group was soaked in 40 ml physiological saline only. The incidence rate of phlebitis, time of occurance and incidence rate of other complications after the insertion of PICC of the two groups were compared. Results After PICC were inserted, the incidence of phlebitis caused by PICC of patients of the treatment group was decreased significantly than that of the control group(P 0.05). Conclusions Peripherally inserted central catheter pretreated with dexamethasone was shown better effect to prevent phlebophlogosis without any other complications. It is worthy of reference for clinical. Key words: Dexamethasone; Physiological saline; Peripherally inserted central catheter; Phlebophlogosis
