Abstract

Objective To study the effect and the length of intervention on the bowel preparation before colonoscopy in the elderly. Methods We selected 90 elderly patients with intestinal tract preparation before colonoscopy, and divided into three groups, group A was treated with polyethylene glycol electrolyte solution only 4 h before colonoscopy, Group B and group C were treated with prucalopride and polyethylene glycol electrolyte solution 1 d and 3 d before colonoscopy respectively, the cleaning effect, intestinal bubble status and polyp detection rate were compared between the three groups. Results Descending colon, sigmoid colon, ascending colon and rectum-ileocecus clean scores of B and C groups were significantly higher than that of group A (P 0.05). The bubbles of group B and C were significantly less than that of group A (P>0.05), there was no significant difference between the two groups of B and C (P 0.05). Conclusion Prucalopride combined with polyethylene glycol electrolyte solution for the bowel preparation is effective, which can improve the clearing effect, reduction of intestinal air bubbles, can be used as an effective method for colonoscopy examination in elderly patients. Key words: Prucalopride; Bowel preparation; Agedness; Colonoscope
