K X rays of highly ionized oxygen and fluorine ions exhibit intensity oscillations as a function of electric field parallel to the beam. The nearly periodic behavior of the oscillations and the linear variation of the beat frequency with projectile velocity suggest a Stark beating between high n hydrogen-like states.
