Abstract

The reaction Ar +( 2P 3 2 ) + N 2(X 1Σ g, υ = 0) → Ar + N 2 +(X 2Σ g, υ″) was studied at 1.1 eV collision energy using a crossed-beam method. In contrast with results at higher and lower collision energies, the scattering diagram obtained at this energy exhibits clearly resolved structure which suggests that product ions are produced in vibrational levels υ = 1, 2, 3, and possibly 4. Further, the population of each of these vibrational levels is correlated with scattering at specific center-of-mass angles.
