Abstract

A meteotsunami was observed across the south coast of Ireland on the afternoon of Saturday the 18th June 2022. The largest signal occurred in Union Hall at 1440 UTC, where water levels dropped by 70 cm over 5 minutes. The signature was evident across the whole south coast of Ireland (seen here from Castletownbere to Dunmore East) and likely driven by a ridge of high pressure that propagated across the south of Ireland at a similar time.
