Her research on the emergence of the diagnostic category of obesity in the Guatemalan highlands attends to collisions between global and Indigenous politics, translations between research and policy in the food sciences and the practice of “engaged anthropology.” She has conducted ethnographic fieldwork in Guatemala since the late 1990s and she has collaborated with metabolic scientists in Guatemala City since 2006. Her writing has recently appeared in Limn, Medical Anthropology Quarterly, Food, Culture and Society and Cambridge Anthropology.
