Abstract

It is found the photoanodic current of polymeric carbon nitride photoelectrode is greatly improved in the presence of oxygen. The long-lived photoinduced hole doping to the polymeric carbon nitride, resulting from the photoinduced electron transfer to the electron acceptor, oxygen, is revealed to be the underlying parameter. In addition, it is shown that the photocurrent behavior is highly dependent on the surface states of carbon nitride.
