Abstract
During the past two decades many students of the microbicidal activity of polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN) have become increasingly convinced that the important role of the PMN in host defense against bacterial infection depends predominantly on the cell’s ability to generate cytotoxic systems that utilize oxygen1,2. This view has been strongly supported by the observations on patients with chronic granulomatous disease, whose leukocytes cannot generate these systemsl,2.
