Abstract
The article compares the widely held belief in the educational environment regarding the rights to dignity of students and teachers – rights that encompass subjectivity and the consideration of risks associated with freedom – with the interpretation of these beliefs in the Matriculation Exam Guide for the Polish Language (at both basic and extended levels) in force since 2023. The interpretation of the painting Annunciation by Lorenzo Lotto serves as argumentative material, highlighting the universal human right to dignity and to the risk inherent in the freedom that is characteristic of the dramaturgy of encountering otherness. It is argued that such a formula applies to the encounter between a student, a teacher, and a text in a school setting because only then is there a chance for a subjective and profound interpretive engagement with the lesson material. The author asserts that the guidelines and examples provided in the Matricu lation Exam Guide contradict the opportunity to reveal the subjectivity of students, promoting only the reproduction of ready‑made knowledge.
