Abstract

Portuguese as a Foreign Language (PFL)learners, A1 level, systemically present phonological productions and morphological constructions that result from the magnet effectof their native languageon the foreign language. In this work we will explore these systemic productions, which we will classify as surplus andindeficit. We propose that surplus productions correspond to the inclusion of features existing in the native languagein PFLproductions, from whosesystem they are absent, and that productions in deficit are related to features existing in the PFLand ignored by learners due to the fact that these features are not found in theirnative language.Based on the analysis of productions by students from the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança on mobility programmes, whose mother tongues are Chinese, Japanese, Polish, Spanish, Turkish, Lithuanian, Tetum and Hungarian,we will reflect on strategies that a foreign languageteacher can use in the teaching-learning process so that the productions in focus can be solved
