Abstract

Television, an integral and fundamental part of a system of mass communication is at the same time the result and the source of the symbolic universe of the public to whom it is addressed. Its program schedule both respects and instigates the social imaginary of its audience, from the historical and social context in which it reveals itself. In the light of some contemporary authors, this paper discusses aspects of the program schedule of the largest Brazilian television conglomerate, as a source of information, especially geared to the attractions related to the memory, trying to point to the construction of new networks of meaning, conceived by and in the televised speech. A highly theoretical reflection, this paper discusses the impact that such programming causes in the construction of the symbolic universe of the Brazilian people and consequently in the memory of this social group in contemporary society.
