Abstract

Protected areas are spaces created to protect nature. However, these areas are contradictory because they are designed to protect the nature of the destructive human power, which provides a dichotomous vision between nature and society. Nevertheless, protected areas are not merely places where human presence is unwanted; these areas have social, economic, cultural, educational potential, among others. The protected areas view based on the idea that the human is not part of nature is seen by some authors as reflex the fragmentation of knowledges, which prevents the totality contemplation of the environmental issue. Thereby, the present work searched understand, through the creation historical process of the Parque Nacional da Restinga de Jurubatiba, the relation between the aspects related to the natural sciences and the political aspects, social and economic.
