Abstract

This research had as objective to identify if the graduate in Pedagogy recognizes in its formation the possibility of acting in the hospital setting, a pedagogical-educational service of special education. Twenty-four undergraduate students of a public university in the interior of São Paulo participated in this research, who answered a questionnaire that promoted the description about the perception that these students have about their initial training to act in hospital settings. The answers of the questionnaires were submitted to data analysis according to the methodology of phenomenological investigation. The discussion of the results revealed that the initial training courses in Pedagogy do not have the hospital space as a focus in the initial formation, although they offer conditions for pedagogical thinking in any educational space. It was verified, however, that being a pedagogue and perceiving himself / herself with conditions to act in hospital settings seems to be an apprenticeship that goes far beyond the lessons acquired in degree courses. Thus, the multidisciplinary knowledge required for pedagogical performance in a hospital environment can be sought, when necessary, in continuing education.
