Abstract

Two O-glucosides (I and II) have been isolated from buckwheat seeds by column chromatography on ion-exchange resins and cellulose powder. Hydrolysis with hydrochloric acid and β-glucosidase, and spectroscopic characterization revealed their structures to be o- and p-(β-glucopyranosyloxy) benzylamine. A salicylidene derivative of II was also prepared and characterized by spectral data. This is the first report of the occurrence of these two compounds in nature.
