Abstract
Background & Method: This study was conducted at Index Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, Indore (M.P.) from June 2020 to November 2020, Enteral feed initiation was considered early if it was initiated within 48 h post surgery. Result: In Non-Anastomotic surgeries, 30% reduction in incidence of infection, 36.6% reduction in incidence of surgical site infection, 30% reduction in incidence blood culture positive, 30% reduction in incidence of UTI, 20.8% reduction in incidence ICU Mortality. 20.8% reduction in incidence of Hospital Mortality Same incidence of Hospital acquired infection, 19 %reduction in incidence of surgical site infection, 30% reduction in incidence blood culture positive, 30% reduction in incidence of UTI. Conclusion: The present study, in addition to the existing literature, showed that early Entral nutrition in post-abdominal surgery ICU patients was found to be associated with a reduced hospital stay and infection rates. Adopting a protocol for early Entral Nutition strategy may help in improving resource utilization. Keywords: nutrition, abdominal & surgery.
