Abstract

Malnutrition is frequent in course of chronic renal failure. More than 50% of patients with dialysis have clinical or biochemical signs of malnutrition. And malnutrition is an independent prognostic factor of long term mortality. Increasing caloric and proteic requirements, and decreasing oral intakes, are main components of malnutrition pathophysiology in chronic renal failure patients. Perdialytic parenteral nutrition could improved nutritional status but its effects on morbidity and mortality have to be demonstrated.
