Abstract

The health of Indian women is intrinsically linked to their status in society, especially for those living in a rural area. Keeping in view the importance of women health, successive Governments, from time to time, have launched various health schemes for improving the health conditions of women. One of the major programmers in this regard is National Rural Health mission. Under the umbrella of NRHM major health schemes for maternal and child health are Janani Suraksha Yojana, Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakaram, Village Health and Nutrition Day, Universal Immunization Programme(UIP), Reproductive and Child Health Camps. The present paper focuses on evaluating the impact of two important health schemes namely Universal Immunization Programme (UIP) and Village Health and Nutrition Day (VHND) on the rural women of district Almora. The study of the selected sample blocks of district Almora, on the basis of primary data collected, has revealed that overall 87.9% rural women immunised themselves and their children at appropriate time. The study revealed that the overall awareness level about VHND programme was found to be only 37.14% which is dismally low. The study provides useful insight of the impact of the selected schemes and suggests some recommendations for better delivery of health services.
