Abstract
If you haven’t yet caught up with the Nursing the Future campaign in Nursing Standard you might have missed the ‘patient stories’ that are being published to address the key theme of the campaign: enhancing the public image and reputation of nursing and midwifery. The Fielding family’s experience of their son Max’s stay in PICU (Nursing Standard 18, 49, 14-16) illustrates child and family-centred care at its best and is the kind of story that could help to balance the many negative stories that seem to dominate newspaper and television coverage of healthcare.
