To explore the status of nurses' the quality of palliative nursing care, analyze the potential characteristics and influencing factors of different types of nurses' the quality of palliative nursing care, and provide reference for formulating intervention programs of nurses' the quality of palliative nursing care. A total of 316 nurses from three hospitals in Liaoning Province were selected by using convenience sampling method in April 2024. General information questionnaire, the Palliative Nursing Care Quality Scale (PNCQS), Meaning in Life Questionnaire, the Chinese version of the Bradley Attitude Assessment Questionnaire, and the Coping with Death Scale Short Version were used to investigate. SPSS 26.0 and Mplus 8.3 were used for data analysis. The score of the quality of palliative nursing care was (3.76 ± 0.77), and two latent profiles were identified: the low-quality group and the high-quality group, accounting for 47% and 53%. Attitude of nurses toward palliative care, meaning in life, and coping with death competence were the factors influencing the potential categories of nurses' the quality of palliative nursing care (P < 0.05). Nurses' the quality of palliative nursing care was in the medium level, and there were two potential categories: the low palliative nursing care quality group and the high palliative nursing care quality group. Nursing managers should take precise measures according to different potential categories of influencing factors to improve the quality of palliative nursing care.

Objective To explore the influence of prospective nursing quality management on the indicators of intensive medicine nursing quality. Methods 446 patients hospitalized into the ward of intensive medicine at our hospital from January, 2014 to December, 2015 were selected and randomly divided into a control group and an observation group, 223 for each group. The control group were cared using traditional nursing care quality management mode and the observation group prospective nursing quality management mode. The indicators of nursing quality were compared between these two groups. Results The incidences of high-risk drug extravasation, unexpected extubation, skin lesions in patients with incontinence, transfusion reaction, and ventilator associated pneumonia were significantly lower in the observation group than in the control group, with statistical differences (P<0.05). Conclusions Applying prospective nursing quality management in ICU can decrease the incidences of adverse events, improve nursing quality, and guarantee the nursing safety of critically ill patients, so it is worth being clinically generalized. BackgroundTaiwan’s NHI system is one of the most successful health care models for countries around the globe. However, little research has demonstrated the mental health issues associated with nursing transformational leadership style under the NHI system, especially in the quality of nurses’ working lives in Taiwan. It is important to know the relationship between transformational leadership style and the mental health of nurses, organisational commitment and job satisfaction. The research aimed to understand the influences of nursing transformational leadership style on the quality of nurses’ working lives in Taiwan. The research hypothesis was that transformational leadership styles would have positive influence on the quality of nurses’ working lives.MethodsThis was a cross-sectional quantitative study. Nurses from each type of hospital ownership (private, public and religious) were recruited. Participation was voluntary and signed informed consent was obtained. The inclusion criteria were nurses with at least one year’s work experience in the hospitals. Self-administrated questionnaires were used. A total of 807 participants were contacted and 651 questionnaires were fully completed (response rate 80.7 %). A theory driven model was used to test the research hypotheses using structural equation modelling performed with AMOS 16.0.ResultsTransformational leadership contributes significantly to supervisor support. Workplace support, particularly from the supervisor, is an important mediator variable that explains the relationship between transformational leadership and job satisfaction. Organisational commitment was the strongest factor relevant to the general health well-being in Taiwanese nurses than job satisfaction. The hypothesized positive relationships between transformational leadership and all variables were supported by the data.ConclusionsOur findings have important consequences for organisational health. Our model demonstrates a complete picture of the work relationships on the quality of nurses’ working lives. The results provided information about the subordinates’ perceptions of transformational nursing leadership styles and mental health outcomes in different hospital settings, as well as identified organisational factors that could improve the quality of nurses’ working lives.

ABSTRACTBackgroundGood sleep is essential to human health. Insufficient quality sleep may compromise the wellness of nurses and even jeopardize the safety of patients. Although the contributors of sleep quality in nurses have been previously studied, the direct and indirect effects of modifiable work-related predictors remain uncertain.PurposeThe study was designed to explore the direct and indirect effects of modifiable work-related factors on sleep quality in Chinese nurses.MethodsA multistage sampling method was employed in this cross-sectional study to recruit 923 participants. An evidence-based predicting model was postulated and then subsequently tested and optimized using path analysis.ResultsThe final model fit the data well, with the involved predictors accounting for 34.1% of the variance in sleep quality of the participants. Shift work, job demands, exposure to hazards in work environments, chronic fatigue, and inter-shift recovery were identified as direct predictors, while whereas job satisfaction, job control, support at work, and acute fatigue were identified as indirect predictors.Conclusions/Implications for PracticeSleep quality in Chinese nurses is influenced directly and indirectly by various modifiable work-related factors. Interventions such as adjusting work shifts and reducing job burdens should be prioritized by administrative staff to ensure the sleep quality and clinical performance of Chinese nurses and to subsequently improve nursing care quality.

The purpose of our study was to determine if regular cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) practise improved the quality of nurses' chest compressions in a rural hospital. The study was a prospective interventional trial measuring the effectiveness of brief, monthly CPR practice for rural nurses. The quality of nurses' chest compressions was measured before and after monthly practise with an interactive feedback device at the Golden and District Hospital, a rural facility in BC. All three components of high-quality CPR (depth, recoil and rate) improved significantly. Monthly practise of chest compressions with an interactive feedback device improved the quality and confidence of nurses' CPR skills. These results suggest that a higher frequency of CPR practice (than the minimum annual recertification) would improve both the quality and retention of CPR skills, specifically for low-volume rural hospitals.

The quality of a nurse’s work life is the degree of satisfaction regarding personal and organizational needs based on experience in a work organization. A nurse with a dual role is the nurse who acts as a mother and a professional nursing staff at the same time. The purpose was to determine differences in the quality of female nurses’ work life in gender and nursing perspective at Balung General Hospital and Kalisat General Hospital in Jember Regency. The research method uses a comparative study with a quantitative research type. The sampling technique in this research is random sampling with a total of 115 samples. Data collection was conducted by using questionnaires about the quality of nurses’ work life from the nursing perspective and questionnaires conflict with women’s dual role from the gender perspective. Data processing using the Mann-Whitney analysis test with a 95% significance level (α=0.05). The results using Mann-Whitney analysis showed that there is a difference between the gender perspective and the nursing perspective (p=0.000). The mean results showed that the nursing perspective () is higher than the gender perspective (). The conclusion shows that the quality of female nursing work life from the gender perspective needs to be improved. The hospital needed to review further regarding work schedules and shift time; the family needed to provide full support and good cooperation; and female nurses themselves must also have good coping control, time, and energy management. Apart from that, it is necessary to have a policy from the room head and team leader regarding the distribution of schedules for female nursing staff without reducing the feeling of unfairness for male health workers.

Background: It is well-known that rotating shift work disrupts the circadian rhythm and sleep quality in nurses. With this study, we aimed to compare subjectively and objectively measured sleep quality in nurses, specifically focusing on any differences that arose in relation to shift work. Methods: This prospective, observational, cross-sectional study was conducted in 2025 in Croatia; a total of 140 nurses participated. Sleep was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and FitBit Charge 3 smartwatch, which monitored sleep over an eight-day period. Results: Most nurses rated their sleep as good or very good, but according to the PSQI questionnaire, all participants were classified as poor sleepers (PSQI > 5). Objective smartwatch measurements showed that nurses working only day shifts had higher sleep scores (median 77, IQR 75–80 vs. 73, IQR 68–76; p < 0.001), significantly longer total sleep duration (median 6.4, IQR 6.3–7.1 vs. 5.5, IQR 5.2–6.2 h; p < 0.001), and longer durations of all sleep stages compared with those working rotating shifts. Conclusions: Most nurses subjectively rated their sleep as good or very good; however, according to the PSQI questionnaire results, all were classified as poor sleepers, with no significant difference related to shift work. Objective measurements using the smartwatch indicated that rotating shift work is associated with significantly poorer sleep quality.

Rotating-shift nurses are susceptible to sleep disorders due to numerous factors, such as their biological clock, emotions, and age. At present, a lack of research exists on whether chronotype and shift type jointly influence the sleep quality of nurses. To verify whether chronotype is a moderator variable of the relationship between shift type and sleep quality in nurses in order to provide empirical evidence for future mental and physical health improvement. Clinical rotating-shift nurses at a medical center in northern Taiwan were recruited as participants between November 1, 2023, and December 13, 2023. All of the nurses were working a monthly rotating shift schedule. Hierarchical multiple regression analysis was employed to investigate whether the influence of shift type on sleep quality in nurses varied with chronotype. The STROBE checklist was used for reporting this study. The participants were 255 rotating-shift nurses in this study. Hierarchical multiple regression results revealed that rotating-shift nurses who were older (B=0.19, p=0.029), had greater physical fatigue (B=0.27, p=0.016), and had more negative emotions (B=0.17, p=0.011) suffered from poorer sleep quality. After controlling the above factors, we further found that chronotype indeed had moderating effects on the influence of shift type on sleep quality (B=-1.83, p=0.049). This study demonstrates that early- and intermediate-type nurses are more suitable for working the day and evening shifts, whereas late-type nurses are more suitable for working the night shift. Coordinating chronotype with shift type will ensure that shift schedules better match the biological clocks of nurses; such individual considerations could help to improve their sleep quality.

The quality of nurses’ work has a direct effect on patient health, and poor sleep has been positively associated with nurses’ medical errors. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between quality of sleep and heart rate variability (HRV) among female nurses. A descriptive cross-sectional correlational study design was used in January 2014 to study female nurses (n = 393) employed in a medical center in Taiwan. Data were obtained from several questionnaires. HRV was analyzed with five-minute recordings of heart rate signals obtained using a Heart Rater SA-3000P. Approximately 96% of the participants self-reported a poor quality of sleep. Compared to non-shift nurses, significant decreases were found in total power (TP) and low-frequency HRV among shift-work nurses. However, negative correlations were found between sleep quality and HRV, including total power, low frequency, and the low frequency/high frequency ratio (r = −0.425, p < 0.05; r = −0.269, −0.266, p < 0.05). In a stepwise multiple regression analysis, 23.1% of variance in quality of sleep can be explained by TP and heart rate. The sleep quality of female nurses was poor and this affected their autonomic nervous system, which can contribute unfavorable consequences for their health.

BackgroundNursing Practice Environment is an important index to improve nursing quality and patient outcome. To explore the nursing practice environment in the COVID-19 ward during the period of COVID-19 and its impact on nursing quality to provide reference for setting up supporting nursing team in epidemic area in the future.MethodsA cross-sectional survey was conducted among 251 nurses working in COVID-19 ward in Shanghai, Hainan and Hunan in December 2022 through stratified proportional sampling. Structured questionnaires, including general information questionnaire, professional practice environment scale and nursing quality questionnaire, were used to investigate the patients. Pearson correlation was used to analyze the correlation between nursing practice environment and nursing quality, and multiple linear regression analysis was used to analyze the influencing factors of nursing quality in the COVID-19 ward.ResultsThe professional practice environment scale score was (3.34 ± 0.40), the nursing quality questionnaire score was (9.47 ± 0.81), both at a high level. Single factor analysis showed that nursing quality was related to educational background, physical condition, professional title, grade of the original hospital and composition of nursing staff in supported departments. Nursing quality were positively correlated with each nursing practice environment dimensions (in addition to teamwork). The results of regression analysis showed that the nursing practice environment in the COVID-19 ward had a positive impact on nursing quality.ConclusionsThe nursing practice environment and nursing quality of nurses in the COVID-19ward is generally very high. The education, working hospital level and nursing practice environment of nurses are the important factors influencing nursing quality. The relationship between nursing practice environment (include leadership and autonomy in clinical practice, staff relationships with physicians, control over practice, communication about patients, handling disagreement and conflict, internal work motivation and cultural sensitivity) and nursing quality is positive. It is suggested that the hospital should pay special attention to and improve nursing practice environment in order to improve nursing quality when setting up temporary ward in the future epidemic period of infectious diseases, ensure patient safety.Impact on clinical practiceResearch shows that an active nursing practice environment can improve the quality of care, and nursing managers create and maintain an active practice environment to improve the quality of care and ensure patient safety.
