Abstract

This article highlights the benefits of nurse prescribing within mental health through working in partnership with service users by enhancing the level of choice in non-pharmacological and pharmacological treatment options. This article will also discusses how independent nurse prescribers might offer clients a more holistic assessment and enhanced support compared to the historical medically-led outpatient experience. It also explores the reasons why qualified nurse prescribers within both primary and secondary mental health care are not currently prescribing.
