Abstract
A scheme of tangential microwave launching is analyzed by using a weakly relativistic ray-tracing code. The scheme makes it possible to minimize the thickness of the heated magnetic-flux tube. Numerical simulations show that with tangential launching, the attainable localization of the power deposition region well satisfies the requirements for experiments on the stabilization of tearing modes in ITER-scale devices.
