Abstract

A two-dimensional model coupling of the electromagnetic field, temperature field and flow field of A356 alloy semi-solid slurry preparation by electromagnetic stirring(EMS) method is established. The power law cut-off(PLCO) semi-solid model is used to model the slurry. The effects of EMS parameters such as stirring frequency and stirring current on the electromagnetic field, temperature field and flow field are investigated by finite element code ANSYS combined with secondary development INTEL FORTRAN software. The results show that, electromagnetic field increases but non-uniformly distributes as stirring frequency and stirring current increase,as a result, flow field increases but non-uniformly distributes. The reasonable stirring parameters for A356 alloy semi-solid slurry preparation by EMS are obtained. The simulation results are verified with corresponding experiments.
