Abstract

The development of a numerical method for modelling two-phase flows and solute transport, particularly with interphase exchange in porous media, is presented. The governing equations are derived to describe two immiscible and compressible fluids flows such as water-air and two-phase solute transport with interphase exchange. Technically, the standard finite element method and a strongly implicit procedure are employed to solve the fully coupled governing equations. Pressures of two-phase fluids and solute concentrations in two-phase fluids are taken as the primary unknown variables, and the discretized equations are solved by a direct type of solver. Application examples are shown to confirm the applicability of the numerical method.
