Abstract

An improved stochastic separated flow (ISSF) model developed by the present authors is tested with sudden-expansion particle-laden flows in this article. The predicted axial mean velocity and turbulent kinetic energy of both phases agree well with experimental data reported by Sommerfeld. Distributions of particle number density and particle flow rate as well as the total flow rate are found to be reasonable. Sensitivity of predicted results to the number of calculation particles is studied and the improved model is shown to require fewer particles and less computing time as compared with traditional stochastic separated flow models.
