Abstract

Nickel based superalloy is a high performance alloy that has distinct features such as improved mechanical properties, creep strength, oxidation and corrosion resistance and thermal resistance. Inconel 625 belongs to the family of super alloys and mostly preferred in case of high temperature applications. Inconel 625 is particularly suited for industrial components for elevated temperature applications like aero engine parts and gas turbines. Laser beam welding (LBW) is most advanced welding technology employed to enhance welding properties particularly for welding of low thickness jobs. Laser beam provides a focused heat source that allows for deep and narrow welds and increased welding rates. In this research article the influence of laser beam heat input on the microstructure development of Inconel 625 alloy joints was explored by varying process parameter like welding speed and power. Laser welded Inconel 625 alloy joints were simulated by using commercial finite element software SYSWELD to find the optimum welding circumstances.
