Abstract
The short-term joint probability of wave heights and periods is of major importance in many coastal and offshore engineering problems. The existing results cover sufficiently only the limiting case of narrow band spectra, a gross approximation to real life data. This paper presents numerical evaluation of the joint probability based on the theoretical framework discussed in a companion paper. The obtained results are valid mainly for wide band spectra and compare well with the available data. The improved behaviour of the present model over past theories is demonstrated, especially in the range of high spectral width parameter.
