Abstract

Abstract An extension of the Simplified Marker and Cell (SMAC) method for the numerical solution of incompressible flows is used to investigate transient flows that are almost three dimensional. The equations of motion are two dimensional but contain functions that account for the effects of a third dimension. The method that results from this extension may also be used for the simple incorporation of internal obstacles in two-dimensional flows.
