Abstract
Established methods of evaluating the sound power radiated from baffled, rectangular panels are either unsuitable for use on plates with complex boundary conditions, or prone to errors associated with discrete Fourier transforms. An alternative method described herein avoids Fourier transforms. It evaluates radiated sound power from the predetermined real or complex structural response of the plate, to an accuracy depending on the number of grid points used in a Simpson's rule integration. The method provides an efficient and accurate means of calculating radiated sound power, and is particularly suited to applications in which ease of technique implementation, and ease of error estimation, are of paramount importance.
