Abstract

The solution of the Fick's second law of diffusion in conjunction with the concept of residual segregation index was used for studying the interdiffusion of Ti in the matrix of as-cast Ni-based superalloys during homogenization at elevated temperatures. It was found that the consideration of two-dimensional diffusion model necessitates the numerical solution with the resulting non-unique and inconsistent diffusion parameters. Conversely, the one-dimensional diffusion model with the analytical solution resulted in the reasonable activation energy and pre-exponential constants. The outcome of this research is important for studying the precipitation/dissolution phenomena during processing.
