Abstract

This research work focuses on the simulation of flow around prismatic bluff body with and without splitter plate by computational fluid dynamics. Such objects interrupt the flow when the flow is passed over or by surroundings and act as a streamlined body known as bluff bodies. There are many shapes included square, circular and triangular prismatic bluff body etc. Despite this, the flow around the bluff body of the triangular prismatic cross-section has not been investigated to the same extent. This work attempts to present the study of fluid behavior of the prismatic bluff body using CFD. In this work, CFD-fluent was performed on a triangular prismatic bluff body with a splitter plate and without a splitter plate using ANSYS 19. The first analysis is performed on the prismatic bluff body without a splitter plate in which drag coefficient and velocity profiles have been found out next, the same procedure is followed with the splitter plate configuration. ANSYS fluent workbench and CREO have been employed for modeling and analysis.
