Abstract

The load-incremental method is one of the basic analytical methods for the numerical analysis of the geometrically nonlinear problem. However, at the critical points such as the limit point and the bifurcation point, the determinant of the coefficient matrix becomes zero, and a numerically unstable situation develops in the vicinity of critical points. Therefore, it is impossible to pursue the equilibrium path beyond the critical point by the load-incremental method.
