Abstract

This paper describes the characteristic analysis and design of large-capacity fault current limiting (FCL) elements using large-size YBCO thin film. The analysis was performed by a finite element method (FEM) based on current vector potentials. Effective patterns of superconducting and gold layers of the elements were designed, and their current limiting characteristics were analyzed. The analysis results indicated that the capacity of the FCL elements we designed was about twice as large as that of conventional elements.
