Abstract

The importance of royal jelly in bees’ life, its chemical composition as well as the composition and content of nucleotides present in this bee product were evaluated and discussed. Both the nucleotide composition and the content of these components in royal jelly depend on its origin, mainly on the variety of bees. The content of nucleotides in royal jelly is low and in fresh product it is about 2 mg/g. In the stored product, the nucleotide content is reduced sometimes even by 30%. Nucleotides characterize a variety of biological properties. First of all, they have an immunostimulatory effect, regenerate the intestinal tissue, perform a beneficial effect on the intestinal flora and the liver. In addition, they affect positively lipids metabolism and the nervous system, and also increase physical resistance. On this basis, it can be assumed that nucleotides greatly contribute to the therapeutic effects of royal jelly.
