Abstract

This article presents a series of drawings by the Madrid painter Ruiz de la Iglesia preserved in the Madrid Casa de la Moneda (Mint), which have been identified as preparatory studies for his large canvas of the Martyrdom of Saint Andrew in the parish church of Casarrubios del Monte (Toledo), one of his best works. Other drawings preserved in the Biblioteca Nacional de Espana (Spanish National Library) and the British Museum, demonstrate that he was an exceptional draftsman with an ample and varied production. The authors also ascribe to this artist’s production a painting attributed to Claudio Coello, the Virgin of Carmen giving the Cloth of the Order to a Knight of Santiago , with an interesting iconography.
