Abstract

For solving the problem of the long-lived radioactive waste, the transmutation has been proposed as an alternative concept. A fast neutron field has been mainly studied for transmuting Minor Actinides (MAs). However, a thermal neutron field is expected to provide high transmutation performance of MAs because of many features of MAs in the thermal energy region. This paper describes the features of the transmutation of MAs in the thermal and well-thermalized neutron field and the nuclide characteristics of Actinide in comparison with those in a fast neutron field
