Abstract

The role of gas in the nucleation of voids in nickel and copper during irradiation is examined critically with the aid of a model discussed previously. A feature of the predictions is that increasing the gas atom flux results in an increase in the void nucleation rate and a decrease in the void size. The void swelling can thus be either increased or decreased, which is in accordance with experimental observations.
