Abstract

The response of polyester nuclear track detectors with different fission fragment radiators to relativistic charged particles was studied. The isotopes 107Au, 209Bi, 232Th and U nat were used as radiators. The response of such detector combinations was established for protons, 4He and 12C with the energy 3.65 GeV .amu -1. Some additional studies were performed also with protons of energies about 9 GeV. It was found that the number of electrochemically etched spots increases with the particle mass, practically independent of proton energy in the interval mentioned. Some possible applications of such detectors in dosimetry and shielding studies around high energy particle accelerators were studied, and the results obtained are presented and analyzed.
