Abstract
The phase transition in NH 4AlF 4 has been studied by means of 1H and 19F nuclear magnetic resonance. Broadline spectra show that the ammonium ion is rotating, and the relaxation times indicate a phase transition at 147 K which is continuous in nature. There is no evidence of hysteresis, or coexistence of phases, at the phase transition.
