Abstract

Eight absorption lines have been observed in a sample of polycrystalline Ga${\mathrm{Cl}}_{3}$. Of these, six are ascribed to the Cl isotopes. The remaining two, which are due to the stable gallium isotopes ${\mathrm{Ga}}^{69,71}$, allow us to determine the ratio of their quadrupole moments. $\frac{{Q}_{{\mathrm{Ga}}^{69}}}{{Q}_{{\mathrm{Ga}}^{71}}}=1.5867\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.0004$, in agreement with earlier atomic beam measurements.
