Abstract
Abstract The identification of mechanisms of diffusion in solids by NMR methods has been used increasingly in recent years. We demonstrate the role of NMR methods in this general area by the consideration of a few selected examples. Particular attention is given to the work on crystals that have the fluorite structure, as these have been used to test the various available NMR procedures which now provide a sophisticated approach to the study of diffusion mechanisms. Other examples which we consider show how more general information on diffusion can also be obtained by NMR methods.
