Abstract

The issue of energy security began to gain importance with the first oil crises in the 1970s. It was then that the world, used to constant cheap supplies of energy resources, experienced how easy it can be to deprive a given country of access to raw materials. The then-functioning organizations related to the energy sector were looking for ways to ensure the continuity of supplies while maintaining reasonable prices from an economic point of view. It was also noticed then that the country’s energy economy cannot be based solely on one raw material, and these countries began to diversify their own energy baskets. This allowed for the improvement of old technologies and the development of new ones. Thanks to these events, energy obtained from renewable energy sources and nuclear power plants began to gain in importance. This article is an attempt to show the reasons and possibilities of future use of nuclear energy in Poland and the effects of building a nuclear power plant in our country.
